Every month we'll be highlighting one of our favourite products and comparing it to similar ones on the market to see how they stack up. This month we're looking at one of our personal favourites...
What are they?
Well, not actually a cheesecake for starters 😉. The delicious creaminess of these bites comes from a mixture of cashews and natural yoghurt, the sweetness from a little pure, Canadian maple syrup. Our homemade vanilla bean extract adds its usual depth of flavour and a little bit of Himalayan pink salt and cinnamon provide a lovely contrast of sweet and salty.
How best to eat them?
One or two of these make for a lovely light dessert that can satisfy that urge for sweetness without being too heavy. Of course, we’ve also been known to reach for them at numerous other times a day - basically whenever the urge for a scoop of ice-cream hits, reach for these instead! Just take them out of the freezer for 5 minutes and they're ready to enjoy.
How they compare....
Typically, desserts are not known for being the most nutritious component of a meal. Consider frozen cheesecake bites from the store, which often contain excessive refined sugars, rich dairy, various emulsifiers, preservatives, vegetable oils, and so forth. While undoubtedly delicious, they are laden with unhealthy ingredients and offer minimal nutritional benefit.
Why should you buy ours?
Our focus is on not compromising on the taste. These aren’t a ‘diet’ food for people who can’t eat the real thing, they are their own, unique offering. Sweet and creamy as you’d expect, but without relying on refined sugars and lots of dairy. Whilst there is some natural yoghurt (high in nutrients and probiotics for gut health) in our bites, they are mostly nut-based. Cashews (high in protein and fibre which helps prevent blood sugar spikes) combine with the natural yoghurt to take the place of heavy creams. And we use pecans (rich in antioxidants as well as protein and fibre) and gluten free oats (great source of soluble fibre which helps reduce cholesterol levels) in place of wheat-based biscuits. Pure maple syrup to provide some all-natural sweetness (good source of manganese to help regulate sugar levels) which melds with our natural homemade vanilla extract (no sugars or preservatives here) creating a rich, caramel-like flavour.
