FAQ's

Got a burning question for us? Want to know more about our food? Check our FAQ section to see if your question has been answered!

GLUTEN/WHEAT

What is gluten?

Gluten is a protein found in raw materials such as wheat, rye and barley.

Is your food suitable for coeliacs?

We use gluten free ingredients (such as gluten free oat milk and flour mixes) and do not use any wheat or gluten-containing food items in our cooking. However, as we cook in a home kitchen where other items containing gluten are present outside of business hours, we cannot guarantee that there has been no cross contact (although we do take measures to reduce the risk as much as possible). Please contact us if you wish to discuss this further.

Is your food gluten free?

We are unable to promote our dishes as gluten free as we cannot test to ensure they contain less than 20 parts per million of gluten as per UK labelling laws. We use gluten free ingredients across the board, no gluten or wheat is present during cooking hours, and we use a separate oven.

Who avoids gluten and/or wheat and why?

  • If you have coeliac disease then you must avoid gluten. Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder wherein the body’s immune system attacks itself after consuming gluten. This can damage the lining of the gut and intestines. Sufferers can be symptomatic or asymptomatic, but can be tested for coeliac disease (whilst still eating a gluten-containing diet).

  • If you have a non-coeliac gluten sensitivity then you’re likely to suffer some form of discomfort (pain, bloating or sickness) from consuming foods and ingredients containing gluten, and therefore may choose to follow a gluten free diet.

  • If you have a wheat allergy - an allergic reaction to specific gluten proteins called gliadin. Symptoms can include itching, swelling, skin rash and even anaphylaxis. This can be tested via your medical practitioner using skin prick testing.

  • People with ‘leaky gut syndrome’ or an autoimmune disease may find improvement on a gluten free diet.

COLLECTION/DELIVERY

I live locally but can’t get out of the house due to illness/infirmity, can you deliver?

We are keen walkers, so if you are local and flexible with the delivery time we would be happy to be a good neighbour and  drop your food round on one of our walks - just call us to discuss!

Can someone else pick up my food for me?

Of course!

What if I can no longer make my collection slot?

Not a problem, just give us a call or send us an email and we’ll arrange for you to collect it another time.

Why do I have to wait 2-3 days to collect after placing my order?

Unless we have an item in stock, when we receive your order we need to order the fresh ingredients, cook a batch of all items ordered, and freeze it. We might already be working on other orders, and we don’t work on the weekends as it is a home kitchen, so we need enough time to ensure we have your dishes perfectly made and ready for collection. We do often have plenty of things in stock and ready for immediate collection, however, which we frequently update our facebook page with - so be sure to check that out! If you need something sooner just contact us and we’ll see what we can do.

We’re staying in an AirBnB in Whitstable next month and would love some dishes for our arrival day - can you help?

We are happy to work with your local AirBnB hosts (please speak to them before placing an order) to ensure you have food in the freezer for your arrival, or work with you to find a suitable collection time.

I forgot to place my order and really want a curry for dinner tomorrow night - do you have any in stock?

As we cook in batches we will often have items in stock. If you are flexible with your order items chances are there will be something you like available. Do send us a quick email or give us a call to find out!

We are collecting from your home address - do we just ring the doorbell?

Of course you can - but nothing is quite as unpredictable as the British weather! Feel free to just pull up in front of our drive if you prefer, give us a quick call, and we will bring your collection out to your car.

OPENING HOURS

What are your opening hours?

As we operate out of a home we do not have regular opening hours. Depending on how many orders we have in, we cook Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm (outside of school holidays), and these are the hours we will be available by phone and email (although if we are both cooking you may need to leave a message and we’ll get back to you!). You can place your orders online (or call us for any custom requirements).

MENU

Do you offer any breakfast items?

Currently we offer the Courgette Fritters, but many of our customers who want an on-the-go breakfast often take one of our Power Rounds or Chewy Fruit & Nut Bars. We hope to add more soon.

I hate coconut, but it looks like you use coconut oil in most of your dishes?

Never fear, we only use refined coconut oil because it has no coconut taste at all!

I can’t eat onions and garlic, but love the look of your curries. Can they be left out?

Most of our dishes can be made without a certain ingredient (although the taste will be different). We have to cook in batches to keep our prices reasonable so we do require customised products to be bought in larger quantities. This varies between products so please call us to discuss your own particular requirements.

I am vegan and would like to order some products but they are made with cheese - do you do a vegan version?

We don't use vegan cheese as it is often quite processed, and we haven't yet delved into vegan lifestyles ourselves, so some cheese is still in our menus. However, we can customise certain items so reach out and we'll see what we can do!

I am diabetic - can I eat your sweet treats?

You would need to decide this under the advice of your health practitioner. From our own experience, our mother is a diabetic and we have managed to reverse her use of medications and insulin whilst eating our foods (treats as always in moderation!). Where we use sweeteners such as honey we use smaller amounts, and most of our dishes involve nuts which are a good source of healthy fats and protein which helps lower the GI of a food item. Please call or email us to discuss specific items if you require more details on carbohydrate and sugar content.

Why don’t you have a nutritional information table?

We don’t promote calorie-counting diets, restricting how much you eat of healthy foods, or focusing on numbers. We are all about eating in a healthy and sustainable way that nourishes the body, and as nutritional tables don't tell the whole story they can be mis-interpreted. The best guide is the ingredients list. However, we are happy to provide nutritional information on request.
