Spotlight: Chewy Fruit & Nut Break Bars plus Upcoming Workshop!

Reaching for a nut bar when you're hungry and on the go?

Every month we'll be highlighting one of our favourite products and comparing it to similar ones on the market to see how they stack up. We're starting with one of our most popular products...

What is it?

Our chewy fruit & nut break bars are a delicious mix of textures and flavours, with crunchy almonds, sticky dates and the occasional crisp pop of apple or apricot.

How best to eat it?

This is a very versatile snack that can serve many purposes and be eaten in several different (equally yummy!) ways. These nutty bars make a great, filling snack to stave off the long hours till your next meal, they also provide a quick energy boost or a sweet treat after meals. For many of our customers, they’re used as an on-the-go breakfast for those days when life won’t slow down enough for anything more. For me, they’re at their very best when served with a lovely cup of tea 😉

They are sold frozen and whilst most people prefer to bring them to room temperature first before eating (which only takes 10 mins or so), they can absolutely be enjoyed frozen too - in fact, this is my sister’s preferred way of eating them!

How it compares....

We know how hectic life can be - you’re running late and need something to grab on your way out the door. Sometimes, there isn’t time for a nutritious breakfast to set you up for the day and by mid-morning your stomach is letting you know how unhappy it is about that 😠. Sadly, that bar you’re reaching for is probably packed with refined sugars.

stop eating sugar pic

There are often health claims on the packaging (‘source of fibre’, ‘no artificial flavours or added preservatives’ etc), which all can be true and still, one look at the ingredients list and you’ll almost certainly find sugar popping up and often in various guises. People tend to like sugar after all! Our bodies, however, not so much...

There are numerous health risks associated with eating too much sugar ranging from weight gain and acne to heart disease and diabetes as well as many more besides.

Why should you buy ours?

As a business, our approach to food can be summed up very simply: ‘keep the bad stuff out, put  plenty of good stuff in and no sacrificing on the taste!’’ And, as it turns out, to make a delicious snack bar you don’t need piles of refined sugar and/or preservatives after all. We use limited quantities of organic medjool dates (that’s where most of the chewy comes in) and pure maple syrup to sweeten our bars. Whilst there's plenty of gluten-free oats in our recipe, it’s actually nutrient-packed almonds that form the bulk of these tasty bars. You’ll also find seeds, peanuts and dried (but sugar and preservative free) fruit rounding out our ingredients and providing a whole range of health benefits such as protein, healthy fats, fibre, vitamins and minerals.

Workshop 3: Movement & Exercise

The next in our series of workshops covering the four pillars of health is imminent and covers Movement & Exercise - or rather, it touches on as much as we possibly can in a 2 hour workshop!

The workshop takes place on Saturday 14th September at Peace By The Sea (81a Northwood Road, Whitstable, Kent) from 2pm - 4pm. We'll be providing tea and coffee as well as some healthy snacks you'll find right here on chrissy cooks for me!

So, if you fancy some light refreshments with a chat amongst a small group of like-minded people about making movement work for you - come find us next Saturday! You can RSVP and find more information on the workshop here at our sister site Salvatori Wellness.
